Boston-Haifa Early Childhood Connection
18 Boston area preschools (ganim in Hebrew), including 23 classrooms, have a Haifa partner and a significant curricular emphasis on Israel— all as a result of the BJE's Early Childhood Israel Project, part of CJP's Boston-Haifa Connection. This year our focus was on Israel at 60, and on a specific philosophy and methodology developed by Israeli researcher Dr. Rami Katz, an Israeli developmental neuropsychologist whose research has influenced early childhood programs in Haifa.
17 early childhood educators from Haifa participated in this year's BJE seminar in Boston. Several new directors and teachers in partnered preschools joined for the first time, and, in addition to preschool teachers new to our program, the Israeli group included 3 Arab directors as well as the heads of programs for Ethiopian and recent Russian immigrants, their supervisors and assistant teachers who are actively involved in our Connection.
On the Boston side, we have expanded our group to include new schools and additional teachers within already partnered schools. We are looking forward to our Israel seminar next Spring, and expect that more will join the highly successful Connection in both communities.
